Meanwhile, in "Bleachers," I will highlight top sports stories, including game recaps, athletic achievements, and more. Whether you're here for the rhythm or the roar of the crowd, there's something for everyone!

Beats:

I will post my "Beats of the Week" each week! For this segment of the blog, I will choose five songs, one from each genre of music: pop, rock, hip-hop, country, and jazzI will give a brief synopsis and review of each song in the hopes that you might add a new song to your playlist. This week's tunes are "rad," "bodacious," and "totally tubular!" And, to be quite frank, if you don't like these 80s hits, you can "eat my shorts!" ... Did I use that phrase correctly??

Pop: "Billy Jean" -- Michael Jackson

Released in 1982 from the blockbuster album Thriller, "Billie Jean" is a hypnotic blend of pop, funk, and R&B, driven by its unforgettable bassline and Michael Jackson’s silky vocals. The song tells a tense tale of a woman claiming Jackson fathered her child, a narrative he denied, adding a layer of personal intrigue. Its groundbreaking music video shattered MTV’s racial barriers, making Jackson a global superstar overnight. The track’s paranoid edge and sleek production redefined pop music for the '80s. It remains a cultural touchstone, with its moonwalk debut at Motown 25 still echoing in pop history.

Rock: "Sweet Child o' Mine" -- Guns N' Roses

Born in 1987 from Appetite for Destruction, "Sweet Child o’ Mine" is a hard rock anthem softened by Axl Rose’s tender lyrics for his then-girlfriend Erin Everly. Slash’s iconic guitar riff—originally a warm-up exercise—spirals into one of rock’s most recognizable intros. The song’s shift from gritty verses to a soaring, emotional chorus showcases the band’s raw energy and vulnerability. It became a crossover hit, dominating radio and MTV with its gritty charm. Decades later, it’s a staple of rock nostalgia, proving Guns N’ Roses could balance chaos with heart.

Hip-Hop: "Push It" -- Salt-N-Pepper

Salt-N-Pepa’s 1987 hit "Push It" is a bold, funky declaration from the pioneering female rap trio, originally a B-side that exploded into a dancefloor juggernaut. With its infectious beat and playful, suggestive lyrics, it blends hip-hop swagger with pop accessibility. The song’s minimalist production and Cheryl "Salt" James and Sandra "Pepa" Denton’s commanding delivery flipped gender norms in a male-dominated genre. Its steamy vibe and iconic synth hook made it a late-'80s party essential. "Push It" not only elevated Salt-N-Pepa to stardom but also paved the way for women in rap.

Country: "Islands in the Stream" -- Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton

This 1983 duet, penned by the Bee Gees, pairs Kenny Rogers’ warm baritone with Dolly Parton’s crystalline twang in a country-pop love story. "Islands in the Stream" sails through themes of devotion and unity, its breezy melody masking a deep emotional current. Originally intended for Marvin Gaye, the song found its soul in Rogers and Parton’s chemistry, hitting No. 1 on both country and pop charts. Its lush production and heartfelt harmonies made it a crossover sensation. It’s since become a timeless karaoke favorite, radiating '80s optimism.

Jazz: "Spain" -- Chick Corea

Chick Corea’s "Spain," revisited in various forms in the '80s, is a jazz fusion gem rooted in his 1972 original, blending Latin flair with virtuoso improvisation. The 1982 Elektric Band version electrifies the track with synths and a tight groove, showcasing Corea’s shift toward a more modern sound. Inspired by Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, its intricate melody dances over complex rhythms. Corea’s piano mastery shines, making it a staple for jazz enthusiasts and musicians alike. The '80s renditions highlight his knack for evolving classics while keeping their soul intact.

NFL Free Agency:

The 2025 NFL free agency period is in full swing. The "legal tampering" period began on Monday, March 10, at 12 p.m. ET, when teams were able to begin negotiating with unrestricted free agents, with deals becoming official on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET, the start of the new league year. However, some players have already signed extensions or been franchise-tagged before hitting the open market, while others remain unsigned with their futures still up in the air. Below, I’ll list the 2025 NFL free agency deals that have already been confirmed based on available information, followed by a selection of notable unsigned players and their predicted landing spots based on current trends, team needs, and expert speculation.
Top 10 Confirmed Free Agency Deals/Extensions:
These are my top 10 NFL players who’ve signed new free-agency deals for the 2025 season:
  1. QB Sam Darnold to Seattle Seahawks
    • Deal: 3 years, $110.5 million
    • Why It’s Top: Darnold’s breakout 2024 with the Vikings made him a hot commodity. I assumed he would land in Seattle after the departure of QB Geno Smith, but not with the payday he received. A $36.8M annual average would make him one of the highest-paid QBs in this class, signaling a rather blockbuster deal.
  2. DE Josh Sweat to Arizona Cardinals
    • Deal: 4 years, $76.4 million
    • Why It’s Top: Sweat’s a prime-age pass rusher (27), and this deal’s value—around $19M per year—fits his upside. This deal fills a huge need for Arizona’s defense.
  3. OT Dan Moore Jr. to Tennessee Titans
    • Deal: 4 years, $82 million
    • Why It’s Top: A young, reliable tackle at $20.5M annually is a big splash for a Titans team desperate to protect their QB. Several NFL analysts have flagged this as a standout move.
  4. WR Chris Godwin re-signs with Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    • Deal: 3 years, $66 million
    • Why It’s Top: Godwin’s a proven star, and keeping him at $22M per year locks in Tampa’s offense. It’s a high-value retention popping up amongst the football community as a fan favorite.
  5. G Aaron Banks to Green Bay Packers
    • Deal: 4 years, $77 million
    • Why It’s Top: At $19.25M annually, Banks bolsters Green Bay’s O-line for Jordan Love. It’s a sneaky-big signing that’s getting early buzz for its fit.
  6. C Drew Dalman to Chicago Bears
    • Deal: 3 years, $42 million
    • Why It’s Top: Dalman’s one of the best centers available, and $14M per year is a steal for Chicago’s line upgrade. The Bears are going all-in on their front five, with many sports analysts claiming it to be among the most competent free agency moves.
  7. QB Justin Fields to New York Jets
    • Deal: Estimated 2 years, $40-50 million (speculative range)
    • Why It’s Top: Fields as a Jet is a headline-grabber after Rodgers’ exit. The contract’s not fully detailed yet, but it’s likely a mid-tier QB deal with upside. I am interested to see if Aaron Rodgers lands in Fields' previous home at the Pittsburgh Steelers...
  8. DT Milton Williams to New England Patriots
    • Deal: Estimated 4 years, $104 million
    • Why It’s Top: New England’s massive cap space fuels this huge defensive splash. If true, $26M annually is a jaw-dropper for a breakout talent.
  9. RB Najee Harris to Los Angeles Chargers
    • Deal: Estimated 1 year, $5 million
    • Why It’s Top: Not the biggest money, but Harris to the Chargers is a perfect fit for Harbaugh’s run-heavy scheme. It’s a low-risk, high-reward steal.
  10. S Jevon Holland to New York Giants
    • Deal: Estimated 3 years, $45 million (speculative based on market)
    • Why It’s Top: Holland’s a young All-Pro safety, and this deal (suggested by early buzz) at $15M per year plugs a Giants weakness with star power.
If you are excited about a signing or extension that is not featured above, congratulations to you and your team! Or, if you lost a player you liked, my dearest apologies. I have a newfound respect for the sports analysts who report this kind of information... I have no idea how Adam Schefter manages to report it all. Because of this, I chose to simply give my top 10! Additionally, I must disclose the following:
  1.  I am not Adam Schefter
  2.  I am not paid by ESPN
Top 5 Biggest Confirmed Trades:
The NFL offseason has seen major trades since the beginning of the NFL Offseason. Here’s a concise list of the most significant confirmed trades:
  1. Deebo Samuel (WR) – 49ers to Commanders
    • Terms: 2025 fifth-round pick.
    • Impact: Samuel (531 yards, 2024) joins Jayden Daniels; SF pivots to youth.
  2. Geno Smith (QB) – Seahawks to Raiders
    • Terms: 2025 third-round pick.
    • Impact: Smith (263.8 YPG) reunites with Pete Carroll; Seattle rebuilds.
  3. Christian Kirk (WR) – Jaguars to Texans
    • Terms: 2026 seventh-round pick.
    • Impact: Kirk (653 yards) boosts C.J. Stroud; Jax leans on rookies.
  4. DK Metcalf (WR) – Seahawks to Steelers
    • Terms: 2025 second-round pick, late-round swap.
    • Impact: Metcalf (992 yards) pairs with George Pickens; Seattle nets haul.
  5. Joe Thuney (G) – Chiefs to Bears
    • Terms: 2026 fourth-round pick
    • Impact: Combined with the pick-up of Jonah Jackson, Pro-Bowler Guard Joe Thuney looks to revamp the Chicago Bears' front 5, while Kansas City loses its best blocker.
Once again, if you are excited about a trade deal that is not featured above, congratulations to you and your team! Or, if you lost a player you liked, my dearest apologies. I must disclose the following once more:
  1.  I am not Adam Schefter
  2.  I am not paid by ESPN
Predicting Landing Spots of the Top 5 Free Agents Who Remain:
Below are the my top five NFL free agent who remain unsigned:
  1. QB Aaron Rodgers (Previously with New York Jets)
    • Why He’s Top 5: A future Hall of Famer and four-time MVP, Rodgers, at 41, remains a premium QB despite his release from the Jets being finalized yesterday. He’s a bridge option with name recognition, the current buzz suggests he’s still weighing offers from teams like the Steelers or Giants. No deal’s confirmed yet, so he tops this list for star power and potential.
    • Landing Spot Prediction: New York Giants
    • Reasoning: The Giants are desperate for a QB savior after the Daniel Jones flop left them with just Tommy DeVito. Rodgers, a local option (he’s got a New Jersey mansion), wouldn’t need to relocate, and he’d instantly upgrade their offense. They’ve got weapons like Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton, plus early free agency moves (e.g., CB Paulson Adebo, S Jevon Holland) show they’re not tanking. NFL insiders like Ian Rapoport note the Giants are “awaiting word” from Rodgers, pitching him on a redemption arc in New York. For GM Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll, he’s a lifeline to save their jobs—seven wins in 2025 could buy time. It’s a low-risk, high-reward play for a franchise needing a spark.
  2. WR Stefon Diggs (Previously with Houston Texans)
    • Why He’s Top 5: Diggs, 31, is a former Pro Bowl No. 1 receiver whose 2024 ended with an ACL tear, but his pedigree (1,000+ yard seasons) keeps him elite. Early free agency trackers list him as unsigned, making him a high-upside gamble for contenders needing a weapon.
    • Landing Spot Prediction: New England Patriots
    • Reasoning: The Patriots are desperate for a legit No. 1 wide receiver to support their rookie QB, Drake Maye, who’s shown promise in 2024 despite a shaky supporting cast. Their current receivers—Ja’Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, and DeMario Douglas—haven’t panned out as go-to guys, with no one cracking 500 yards last season. Diggs, even at 31 and coming off an injury, brings proven production: six straight 1,000-yard seasons before 2024, including 1,183 yards and 8 TDs with the Bills in 2023. His veteran savvy could mentor Maye and the young corps, while his route-running finesse (73% catch rate in 2024 pre-injury) fits Maye’s need for a reliable target. With over $120 million in cap space, per OverTheCap, New England can afford a short-term deal—say, 2 years, $30-40 million—without breaking the bank, especially since Diggs’ ACL might lower his market.
  3. Cooper Kupp (Previously with Los Angeles Rams)
    • Why He’s Top 5:
Kupp’s resume screams elite: he’s the 2021 Super Bowl MVP, led the NFL in receptions (145), yards (1,947), and touchdowns (16) that year, and earned Offensive Player of the Year honors. Even with injuries slowing him—10 games in 2024, 9 in 2022—he’s still a technician, posting 60 catches for 650 yards and 5 TDs last season at age 31 (per PFF’s 18th-ranked WR). His route-running is surgical—90th percentile in separation rate—and he’s a QB’s best friend in the slot, making him a plug-and-play star for any offense.
    • Landing Spot Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs
    • Reasoning: Patrick Mahomes needs a reliable target post-Rashee Rice injury and legal trouble. DeAndre Hopkins faded late last year and is now with the Ravens, and rookie Xavier Worthy, though he posted a great first season, is still breaking in his glove. Kupp’s veteran experience and Super Bowl chops fit Andy Reid’s system, and $44M in cap space, recently made possible by a restructure of Chris Jones and Patrick Mahomes' current contracts, makes a deal with Kupp doable.
  4. WR Amari Cooper (Previously with Buffalo Bills)
    • Why He’s Top 5: Cooper, 31 in June, had a quiet 297-yard stint with Buffalo post-trade in 2024, but his 1,250-yard 2023 proves he’s still a WR1. No signing news has surfaced, and his consistency makes him a hot commodity among remaining skill players.
    • Landing Spot Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers
    • Reasoning: After trading for DK Metcalf this week, the Steelers still need a complementary piece opposite George Pickens. Cooper’s a better fit than Mike Williams (who left in 2024), offering crisp routes over raw speed. With $40M in cap space and a playoff roster, they’re in win-now mode—this addition would make for a rather scary-looking WR trio. Reports have suggested that they’ve already offered Rodgers, so if that falls through, Cooper’s a natural pivot. Additionally, he’d thrive with a run-heavy scheme and a QB (whoever it is post-Wilson/Fields) needing dependable hands, not just deep threats.
  5. WR Tyler Lockett (Previously with Seattle Seahawks)
    • Why He’s Top 5: One of the NFL's most reliable No. 2 receivers, Lockett, 32, had 47 catches for 633 yards in 2024. Seattle’s Darnold signing and DK Metcalf trade shifted their focus, leaving Lockett free.
    • Landing Spot Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars
    • Reasoning: The Jaguars’ passing game needs a jolt after a disappointing 2024. Trevor Lawrence took a step back (3,100 yards, 18 TDs, 11 INTs in 14 games), and while rookie Brian Thomas Jr. flashed (800+ yards), the receiver room lacks consistency. Gabe Davis underperformed (400 yards), and Christian Kirk’s injury history (missed 5 games in 2024) left gaps. Plus, Christian Kirk was just traded to the Houston Texans. Lockett, with 47 catches for 633 yards in 2024, brings reliability—six straight 1,000-yard seasons prior—and elite slot skills (80% of snaps inside last year). His quickness and hands (career 68% catch rate) could give Lawrence a trusted short-to-mid target, easing pressure on Thomas and boosting an offense that ranked 20th in passing yards. With $31M in cap space (per OverTheCap), they can swing a budget-friendly deal—think 1 year, $7-8M.
For the last time, I am disclosing the following:
  1.  I am not Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport
  2.  I am not paid by ESPN or NFL Insider
